When I received this book I thought my kids, ages 3yrs and 5yrs, might feel it was to young for them. I was pleasantly surprised when they both took to the book, enjoying the illustrations as well as the rhymes. They actually asked me to read it several times in a row the first night we had it. Since then it has become a regular favorite. Seems like the night's they're feeling most snuggly are the nights they request this book for a bedtime story.
If I Could Keep You Little (Sourcebooks; ISBN: 9781402255595; Picture Book $15.99; November 2010) by Marianne Richmond.
This book exemplifies exactly how I feel about my own children. I'm always asking them if they could stop growing and stay little forever. I'm not sure who liked this book better, me or the kids. The kids love the glimpse into their future and I love remembering all the little things they did as babies. It's always nice when the kids and I can share a book that we both can relate to. Mommy wants to stop time and the kids are in a hurry to grow up! But in the end it's just about spending quality time together and that's exactly what this book provides!
My Name Is Not Isabella (Sourcebooks Jabberwocky; ISBN: 9781402243950; Picture Book $16.99; September 2010) by Jennifer Fosberry.
My kids and I love this book. They both love to play dress up and everyday wear the hat of many different characters. So My Name Is Not Isabella was something they could totally relate to. With each turn of the page the kids wait in anticipation of who Isabella will be each moment and way. They also love at the end when Isabella goes to bed that she returns to herself and she knew she shared the wonderful traits of those she pretended to be.
